The methods for measuring coating thickness are described in the ISO 2808 standard. In inspection practice, the following methods are most often used to check coating thickness:
1A - wet film thickness measurement with a painter's comb (Wet Thickness Gauge)
7A - dry film thickness measurement (DFT) using the magnetic pull-off method, becoming a thing of the past
7B - thickness measurement (DFT) using the magnetic method (magnetic induction)
7C - thickness measurement (DFT) using the eddy current method
Less commonly used measurement methods:
6B - DFT measurement method using the wedge incision method, e.g. using a device called PIG (destructive method). It allows for the measurement of individual layers made of different paints in a painting system.
10 - ultrasonic method. It allows for the measurement of individual layers made of different paints in a painting system (non-destructive method).
We also have a device that allows us to measure the thickness of the zinc coating and the paint coating at one point.
